Dicot root in the zone of tissue maturation

General view

This micrograph shows the primary root structure of buttercup (Ranunculus sp.) in transverse sectional view from the zone of tissue maturation. It is also a region of high water absorption.

This complete section of the root at the beginning of root hair zone, demonstrates proportions occupied by the cortex and central cylinder. Identify the rhizodermis, future exodermis (a distinct cell layer beneath the rhizodermis), abundant layers of cortical parenchyma, the vascular cylinder and tracheary elements.
